Indigenous Relations Manager

Full-time Permanent - Ontario (Hybrid/Travel Required)

Firedog Communications is seeking an experienced and relationship-driven Indigenous Relations Manager to join our growing team. This senior role will lead Indigenous engagement, consultation, and strategic advisory services for major projects across Ontario.

 

The Indigenous Relations Manager will play a critical role in supporting Indigenous-led economic participation, strengthening partnerships, and advancing meaningful Reconciliation through respectful, transparent, and culturally informed engagement. The successful candidate will bring strong relationship-building skills, sound knowledge of Indigenous history, rights, and governance, and demonstrated experience supporting projects in partnership with First Nations and industry proponents. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of Indigenous-industry partnerships and contribute to projects that support long-term economic and community development.

Key Duties

Strategic Leadership and Advisory

  • Lead the development and implementation of Indigenous engagement and consultation strategies aligned with regulatory requirements, project timelines, and community priorities.
  • Provide senior-level advice to clients and project teams on Indigenous relations, cultural protocols, and best practices for respectful and effective engagement..
  • Support the integration of Indigenous Knowledge and community priorities into project planning and decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to advancing Indigenous participation, economic partnership opportunities, and capacity-building initiatives.

Community Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, respectful, and long-term relationships with First Nations leadership, community members, and partner organizations.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, open houses, and community engagement events. Serve as a trusted liaison between Indigenous communities, clients, and project teams.
  • Support the development of engagement materials, communications, and presentations tailored to community audiences.

Consultation and Project Delivery

  • Lead and support formal consultation processes in alignment with regulatory frameworks.
  • Track consultation activities, commitments, and issues to ensure accurate reporting and follow-through.
  • Prepare briefing materials, consultation records, reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and coordination of interdisciplinary teams and consultants.

Project Management and Administration

  • Manage project documentation, reporting, and engagement records.
  • Maintain consultation tracking systems, databases, and project files.
  • Support procurement coordination, consultant onboarding, and project reporting as required.
  • Represent Firedog Communications professionally at events, client meetings, and community forums.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Indigenous relations, consultation, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, preferably in Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, history, governance, and the duty to consult.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, natural resource, energy, or environmental projects is considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports and engagement materials.
  • Highly organized with strong project management and coordination abilities.
  • Travel will be required in northern Ontario.
  • Ability to travel to Indigenous communities and project sites as required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
