In November 2024, Hydro One and nine First Nation partners, joined by municipal leaders, officially broke ground on the Waasigan Transmission Line project. This milestone is the result of several years of collaboration and engagement with Indigenous communities, government agencies, local organizations, interest groups and community residents. The nine First Nation partners include Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation and eight First Nation communities represented by Gwayakocchigewin Limited Partnership (GLP).

The Waasigan Transmission Line is a new double-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line between the Municipality of Shuniah and the City of Dryden in Northwestern Ontario.

Hydro One initially retained the services of Firedog Communications to support its engagement and communication efforts with Indigenous communities for the Waasigan Transmission Line project in 2021. In 2024, Firedog supported the coordination of the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Waasigan Transmission Line Project, including event planning, coordination and media relations.
