Thunder Bay, Tuesday October 9, 2018 – Women in Politics and PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise have joined forces to raise the visibility of women in politics with a new election campaign called Every Woman Counts. The campaign is a call to action to encourage women to vote and to urge all voters to consider female candidates on the ballot.

In 2018, the number of women on the municipal ballot has increased across Northwestern Ontario. However, it is estimated that the number of elected women could be boosted if more women exercise their right to vote this October.

Says Jodi Connor, spokesperson for Women in Politics; “This campaign raises the visibility of exceptional women who have stepped up to run for political roles but most importantly, it emphasizes that every woman; regardless of age, background or culture, has a vote and a vote that counts. Individually and collectively, female voters and candidates add up to change the socio-political landscape of our communities.”

Every Vote Counts features diverse women from all sector and backgrounds to emphasize the real opportunity for women to positively influence the outcomes of elections and Northwestern Ontario.

Continues Connor; “Whether you’re a first-time voter or a senior, every woman has a unique voice and perspective to impart on this election. We felt it was fitting to feature local women to inspire other women across the region to do their homework and vote.”

People can engage with the campaign and join the conversation using the hashtag #EveryWomanCounts. The campaign is funded by Women in Politics, PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise and Status of Women Canada.
