New Live Chat Settlement Services Launched

February 1, 2018: Thunder Bay, ON – now hosts a brand new Live Chat feature for newcomers. Launched today, Live Chat allows settlement workers from Thunder Bay Multicultural Association to communicate with potential newcomers in real time.


This pilot project is a partnership between The City of Thunder Bay and Thunder Bay Multicultural Association as an effort to attract newcomers to Northwestern Ontario. Funded by the Province of Ontario, the Live Chat services will be available 6 days per week between the hours of 6:00 AM and 9:30 PM to improve accessibility to potential newcomers around the world. Highly skilled settlement workers from Thunder Bay Multicultural Association will work as operators and offer settlement advice in multiple languages.


Says Cathy Woodbeck, Executive Director of the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association, “We are excited that the Government of Ontario has chosen Northwestern Ontario to pilot this Live Chat service. Our operators will be available online to provide immediate support, answer relocation questions and guide potential newcomers through the process of moving to Northwestern Ontario. This gives access to newcomers already in the region, within Canada and those abroad contemplating a move to Northwestern Ontario.”


The Live Chat service will be piloted for six months with the goal of increasing access to services, removing barriers and increasing the number of newcomers who successfully relocate to Northwestern Ontario communities. The service is available at:
